Israeli police and border forces took into custody, on Thursday night, 39 Palestinian workers near the Israeli resort city of Eilat, according to Israeli media. It was reported that the 39 workers were from the Al-Khalil (Hebron) City in the southern West Bank, and that they were all taken to Israeli interrogation centres for questioning.

Palestinians from the occupied West Bank are banned from working in Eilat, though tens of thousands have been given permits to work in other Israeli cities, according to Days of Palestine.

All Palestinian work permits issued by the Israeli occupation include the phrase “allowed to enter Israel excluding Eilat.”

Palestinians who seek to work in occupied Israeli cities need a special work permit usually granted by the Israeli Civil Administration, in coordination with the Israeli Ministry of Labour.
