Commissioner General for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Pierre Krähenbühl, at the Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo, declared that Israel should stand accountable for its violations against Palestinian civilians. The Palestinian News Network (PNN) reports that, speaking to ministers in Cairo, Mr. Krähenbühl stressed that, while Israel speaks of Palestinians merely in terms of numbers, the occupation affects on a daily basis men, women and children who have hopes and aspirations like any other people across the globe.

He added that the time has come for things to change in Gaza and the West Bank, and to solve the issues behind the ongoing hostilities, as well as to free the region for commerce, labor, and movement.

Krähenbühl appealed for an urgent assistance of US$ 47 million, adding that long-term reconstruction of the Gaza Strip should be addressed, and that it is connected to negotiations of the entry of goods and construction materials into Gaza.
