Palestine Wins General Assembly Vote

The Palestinians managed to garner an overwhelming support to their UN General Assembly membership bid and were voted in as a nonmember observer state.


138 member states voted in favor of Palestine, while only 9 countries voted against the bid and 41 countries abstained.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York to submit the Palestinian application to recognize Palestine as a non-member state in the UN.

Abbas told the assembly that this is a chance that might not be available later because the chances are diminishing.

He said that the Israeli military occupation of Palestine should come to an end for peace to prevail.
