Welcome to Palestine Today, a service of the International Middle East Media Center, www.imemc.org, for Thursday November 29th, 2012.

Palestinians rally to support President Abbas bid at the UN, while eight Palestinians injured in Gaza and Israeli forces continue to violate the ceasefire agreement. These stories, and more, coming up, stay tuned.

Carrying President Abbass’s photos and banners supporting him, Families, political and community leaders rallied across major West Bank cities in support of the Palestinian application at the United Nations to become a nonmember state.

Israel and the U.S oppose the move. US Secretary of state Hillary Clinton said earlier in the week, that A long-term, two state solution should be pursued through negotiations between the Occupied West Bank and Israel; not from the UN in New York.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said today in Jerusalem the move would change nothing on the ground and only delay the establishment of a Palestinian state.

From his part Palestinian president said that he refuses to exchange the approval of the UN application with the promise not to take Israel to international courts. President Abbas added that going to the vote regardless of Israeli opposition is a political victory.

The Israeli army continued its violations of the ceasefire that was reached on the evening of Wednesday November 21. In the Gaza Strip today, Israeli naval boats opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the Gaza city coast line today. Damage was reported but no injuries.

On Wednesday evening Israeli troops shot and injured, seven Palestinians east of the Al-Maghazi and the Al-Bureij refugee camps in central Gaza. Medical sources reported that all of the wounded Palestinians were moved to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Central District, and that one of them is in a serious condition.
