The Palestinian Security Forces and the Police initiated an investigation into the attack, and stated that it is “conducting extensive efforts to end insecurity in the area”.

The Fateh movement, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, denounced the attack, and said that Ash-Shami was shot while standing in front of his home in Wad Burqeen, near Jenin. He was hit by two rounds of live ammunition in his right leg.

The parliamentary bloc of the Fateh movement said that targeting Shami is an attack against security and stability the P.A. is enforcing in the area, and “an attempt spread fear among the residents”.

It called on the security forces to act on apprehending the assailants and prosecuting them.
