Hamas security forces dispersed a rally in the Gaza Strip, on Monday. The rally had been intended to call for an end to political division within the Palestinian political world.Agence France Presse reported that demonstrators had organised the protest throughout social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, but whilst making their way to the Square of the Unknown Soldier to begin the protest they were prevented from doing so by security forces.

Plainclothes police officers arrested one man, identified as Ahmed Arar, who protestors stated is the organiser of the unity movement within the Gaza Strip.

Following the unrest in the greater Arab world, both Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank have continually prevented the Palestinian population from holding rallies and demonstration supporting populations revolting against political regimes, and calling for an end to the political division between Hamas and Fatah that led to internal conflict in the Gaza Strip in 2007.
