Mousa said that the Israeli plan is provocative and contradicts all efforts to resume the peace process.

He added that by the ongoing construction and expansion of settlements, Israel is proving that the continuation of peace talks will only provide it with more cover-up for its policies, and will not lead to a real peace.

Mousa further stated that Israel is foiling any attempt to resume the peace process and any real chance for the establishment of an independent Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He demanded the U.N. Security Council act against the illegal and provocative Israeli policies.

On Saturday evening the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel informed the United States of its intention to announce bids for the construction of 238 new housing units in occupied East Jerusalem.

Netanyahu's office said the White House knew about the plan beforehand but did not approve it.
