Medical sources in Egypt reported Friday evening that an Eritrean woman was shot and wounded by Egyptian Border Police fire while trying to cross into Israel through a border fence, seven African immigrants were arrested in a separate incident.The incident took place at Border marker #7 south of the Kerem Shalom (Karem Abu Salem) Crossing.

The Egyptian Border Police stated that border policemen fired a number of warning rounds into the air and that seven surrendered immediately while the woman tried to run away; she was shot by one live round .

The seven detained immigrants told Egyptian interrogators that they were attempting to infiltrate into Israel to search for work, and that each paid nearly 1000 USD to smugglers on the Egyptian side.
