The Israeli Ministerial Legislative Committee is expected to sign a new legislation that imposes further sanctions on Hamas detainees and other political prisoners imprisoned by Israel. The sanctions include the denial of all visitation rights, except those by lawyers or representatives of the Red Cross.

The draft was presented by Likud member of Knesset, Dani Ayalon, in an attempt to pressure the resistance in Gaza to agree on Israel’s terms for a prisoner-swap deal.

Ayalon said that Israel will not allow Hamas detainees to have visitations while Gilad Shalit, captured by the resistance In Gaza, cannot have any visitations.

The vote on the draft was delayed several times before as several Israeli ministers expressed fears that this measure would lead to obstructing indirect talks for the release of Shalit.
