Palestinian Worker Dies, Two Injured At Separate Tunnel Accidents In The Gaza Strip

A Palestinian worker was killed and two others injured late Monday night during separate tunnel accidents at the southern Gaza Strip boarders with Egypt.

Mohamed Abu Sha’er, aged 20, was killed when a tunnel collapsed on him. Another two workers were injured when another tunnel collapsed on them, local sources reported Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, A Palestinian worker was critically injured, on Monday, while working inside a tunnel at the southern Gaza Strip borders with Egypt. Also on Monday two workers were injured when a cooking gas canister exploded inside another tunnel at the Gaza-Egypt borders.

Since Israel imposed a crippling siege on the Gaza Strip started in June 2007; the tunnels became the source of much needed supplies to the 1.5 million Palestinians living in the coastal enclave.

Abu Sa’er death brings the number of Palestinian workers killed in tunnel accidents to 143 since June of 2007.
