Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Palestinian official told the France Press that the clashes were caused due to internal conflicts between the members of the Front.

It is worth mentioning that the Lebanese government has demanded the armed factions in Lebanon to disarm.

Local sources reported that automatic weapons and RPG shells were used during the clashes.

A Lebanese army spokesperson told the France Press that the situation is now calm, and added that an officer of the PFLP and three other members surrendered to the army and were taken into custody.

The PFLP General Command, an off-shoot of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, is headed by Ahmad Jibril, and has several camps near the Syrian border, and a base near Beirut.
