Witnesses said that Israeli tanks shelled homes and farms in the eastern part of Rafah city, southern Gaza Strip. Damage was reported but no injuries.

Situation remains tens in the Gaza Strip after Israel’s government announcement on Sunday that the army will respond heavily to the killing of two Israeli soldiers at the borders over the week end.

Last Friday night lashes took place at the southern Gaza Strip borders with Israel; one resident was killed and thirteen others were wounded. Two Israeli soldiers were killed and three were wounded.

On Sunday Israeli Finance Minister called for reoccupying Gaza and eliminating Hamas that control the coastal enclave. Israel enforces a crippling siege on the Gaza Strip since June of 2007.
