During a field tour across Ramallah farm lands, Fayyad said, "The olive tree is a blissful tree that symbolizes the Palestinian people's rooted existence on their lands."

He added that in order to ensure the farmers' steadfastness on their lands there should be a great deal of support for these farmers by sending out the message that, "We are attached to our lands."

From his part, Hatem Abdelqader, a Fatah leader and deputy of the occupied east Jerusalem at the Palestinian parliament, was reported by Palestine News Network as saying that now is the time to defend against settler attacks Palestinian farmers and olive pickers.

Recently, media reports said that attacks on Palestinian farmers by armed Israel settlers have risen dramatically in a time when farmers rely heavily on the olive harvest as a major source of income.
