After three months, Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire shortfalls objectives

Various Palestinian resistance factions in the Gaza Strip have voiced skepticism over Israel's commitment to the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement, Israel and the factions reached in June19,2008.

Half of the agreed period of this truce has passed, as Israel closes the commercial crossings of Gaza. Closure of crossings today is not the first, as Israel has frequently sealed them off over the past three months.

The ruling Hamas party, while confirming the scarcity of essential goods and commodities such as cement, aluminum, nylon, as well as many food items, blamed today the Israeli occupation for such a situation.

Hamas's spokesman in Gaza was quoted by media outlets as saying " all realize one important fact that we agreed to the truce to give a chance for mediation efforts but the occupation has not committed to its obligations".

Hamas called on Arab or international peace activists to organize activities to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza. Meanwhile, local leader of the Islamic Jihad group in Gaza, Khaled Albatch, said on Monday " Israel is apparently going to escalate militarily on the ground in Gaza in order to end a truce, which does not achieve Israel's objectives" Albatch was commenting on Israeli defense minister, Ehud Barak decision to close the Gaza crossings 'in response to firing a homemade shelll on the nearby Israeli town of Sderot yesterday".

" We are on the verge of a new Holocoust that would target the humanitarian and civil aspects of Palestinians' life in Gaza".

Over the past three months, Israel has repeatedly warned of a large military offensive on the Gaza Strip, as a number of issues between Palestinians and Israelis are still outstanding.

Israel enforced a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip, in the wake of Hamas's takeover of the region, amidst factional fighting with Fatah party of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.
