The Israeli government announced earlier this week that it would not interfere with the boats as they left.

Berlin confirmed that they will be inspected by the Gaza Port Authority and will not enter “Israeli territorial waters.” She stated,

“By Israel's own admission, it has no authority to inspect the boats or the passengers when they leave Gaza.” Some of the other activists who entered by sea will remain in the Gza Strip to engage in humanitarian work and monitoring.

The SS Free Gaza and SS Liberty are planning a quick turn-around in Cyprus to pick up a new group and return to the Gaza Strip.

Berlin wrote that “the Free Gaza Movement forced the Israeli government to issue a fundamental policy change regarding their military and economic blockade of Gaza.”

However, the Israeli government was quoted in the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahranoth as saying, “This was a one time thing,” in regards to not stopping the boats from entering.

The Free Gaza Movement is calling on the United Nations, the Arab League and others in the international community to engage in similar humanitarian missions.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign affairs publicly announced that humanitarian and human rights missions to Gaza will no longer be stopped or threatened by Israel.

However, The Israeli government stated earlier this week that if any actions such as this are attempted again, they will be stopped.

The 'Free Gaza' movement has been collecting money and supplies since last year to allow the unprecedented blockade-breaking trip to move forward.

As the sixty activists gathered in Cyprus three weeks ago, the Israeli government issued statements indicating that the Israeli navy would open fire at the boats if they tried to bring the humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The aim of the group is to bring much-needed medicine, medical supplies and food to the civilian population of Gaza, which has been suffering under an Israeli-imposed siege for over a year.
