On August 5th, activists will be taking to the high seas in an effort to get much needed medical supplies to the ailing residents of the besieged Gaza strip.

The Israeli military has been consistently preventing critical supplies from going overland from Israel into Gaza as they continue to prevent all access to the one point four million palestinian residents.

The port, relinquished by the Israeli government when they withdrew from Gaza in 2005, offers activists an avenue around Israeli bureaucracy and military harassment.

Tom Nelson, a portland based attorney, is training with close to sixty other members of the non-violent, humanitarian organization Free Gaza in preparation for the trip.

IMEMC’s Jenka Soderberg spoke with Mr. Nelson about the group’s expectations for the precedent setting journey.
