Family of missing Israeli navigator receive two photos of him in captivity

author Monday July 14, 2008 03:06author by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies Report post

Israeli TV channel 10 aired on Sunday photos that were never seen before of the missing Israeli navigator, Ron Arad, whose plane was shot down over Lebanon in 1986. The photos were apparently taken in 1987.

In the photo, Arad appears to be wounded in his left shoulder and is wearing pajamas, Israeli online daily, Haaretz, reported.

Haaretz and the Associated Press reported on Sunday that the pictures included photographs of sections of Arad’s diaries dated from 1987.

All photos were transferred to the family of Arad as part of a prisoner swap deal which would most likely take place on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Israel received a report from the Lebanon-based Hezbollah party through the German mediator, Gerhard Conrad.

It is believed that the report could pave the way for a prisoner swap deal between Israel and Hezbollah, yet Israeli officials stated that this report lacks two main components; the fate of Arad and why his body was never found. Hezbollah believes that Arad is dead.
