The Popular Committees slams Israeli bulldozing of farmlands near Hebron

The Palestinian Popular (Folk) Committees issued on Wednesday a press release slamming the Israeli occupation forces for uprooting Palestinian lands in the southern West Bank city of Hebron in order to construct a military post.

The Committees stated that the army bulldozed, so far, two Dunams of farmland belonging to resident Hilmy Al Jamal. The land is close to a settler-only road south of the city.

Azmi Shiokhy, secretary-general of the Committees, stated that soldiers closed a road south of Hebron after the residents managed to remove sand hills placed by the army to block it.

Shiokhy added that the road was closed in response of demands by Israeli settlers in the city after they calmed that the road, if remains to be also used by the Palestinians, will “subject the settlers to danger”.

During a previous visit, Israel vowed to the visiting US Secretary Of State, Condoleezza Rice, to open the road for the residents but the Israeli government went back on its word.

Moreover, the Committees slammed that army for breaking into several homes and a mosque in Hebron. Soldiers searched the properties and interrogated dozens of residents.

The Committees added that the ongoing Israeli attacks and violations aim at forcing the Palestinians to surrender and giveaway their historic tights in Palestinian. It also stated that the Palestinian people will remain steadfast and will never abandon the Refugees Right of Return, Jerusalem, self determination and the release of all detainees.
