Israeli High Court of Justice rules against villagers in the northern West Bank

author Tuesday April 29, 2008 22:38author by Ghassan Banoura - International Middle East Media Center - IMEMC Editorial Group Report post

The Israeli Hight Court of Justice in Jerusalem ruled on Tuesday against villagers of Al Aqaba, located in the northern part of the West Bank.

The Israeli army issued orders two years ago restricting the area to be used for building homes in the village from 3000 dunums of land to 100 dunums of land. The villagers took the matter to the Court, and today the Court ruled in favour of the Israeli army.

The Al Aqaba village council stated that at least 60 per cent of the village homes will be demolished as a result of this decision.

The council added that the army has distributed demolition orders to all the homes which are not located on the 100 permitted dunums.

According to the village council, the Israeli army is attempting to take over the villagers' land due to its strategic importance for conducting military training.
