Javier Solana, EU high commissioner on Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday that reaching a resolution of the Israeli Palestinian conflict before the end of 2008 is still possible, indicating that these hopes will vanish if no progress is acheived by the end of this summer.

In his statements at the the EU Foreign Affairs Committee, Solana said that "an important meeting was held on Monday between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert." He added that he believes that reaching a resolution for the Israeli Palestinian conflict is still possible before the end of 2008

But Solana had refused to show over-optimism noting that "if we could not move the peace process forward actively before the end of this summer, we ought to rule out reaching an agreement in 2008".
