A Palestinian dies in a tunnel collapse in southern Gaza

On Sunday a Palestinian dug tunnel, on the Gaza-Egypt border line has reportedly collapsed , causing the death of one Palestinian.

An Egyptian security official, speaking anonymously, told media outlets that a  tunnel collapsed under its own weight. Palestinian rescue teams managed retrieved the body of one Palestinan man lying under the tunnel wreckage. Since  the Israeli closure  of Gaza in June 2007,  there has been media reports of smuggling  essentail supplies through the Gaza-Egypt border line.   In January 2008, hundreds of Palestinians flooded into nearby Egypt as the Israeli siege made life impossible, after the  closure of all border crossings causing severe hardship. In June2007, Israel enforced crippling closures on the coastal territory after the Islamist Hamas party took over the region amidst a power struggle with the Fatah party of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.
