Two fighters killed, one injured, in the central Gaza StripPalestinian medical sources reported on Friday at dawn that two Palestinian fighters, members of the Al Quds Brigades the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, were assassinated and one was injured in an Israeli military shelling to Al Maghazi refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip.
The shelling targeted a group of fighters who gathered east of the camp, local sources reported. The two slain fighters and the injured fighters were moved to the Al Aqsa Hospital in Dir Al Balah. The assassinated fighters were identified as Ayman Abu Sa’id and Mohammad Al Hazeen. The bodies of the two fighters were severely mutilated. Eyewitnesses reported that an Israeli military helicopter fired missiles at the fighters and the Al Quds Brigades confirmed that the two are members of the group. The Brigades added that the fighters were monitoring undercover Israeli forces that infiltrated into the area and exchanged fire with them before the military helicopter was called to the scene and fired the missiles at them. Israeli online daily, Haaretz, reported that an Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed that attack. In related news, an Israeli military helicopter fired rounds of live ammunition at several houses and resistance fighters in Khuza’a town, east of Khan Younis in the southern part of the Gaza Strip; damage was reported, no injuries. Also, the Israeli Air Force fired shelled several areas in the Gaza Strip on Thursday at night and Friday at dawn. Furthermore, the Israeli Navy fired on Friday morning at least 15 shells at open areas near Al Sudaniyya area in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, no injuries were reported. In its weekly report published on Thursday, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) reported that during the week of 14 - 20 February 2008, 6 Palestinians were killed, 2 died from earlier injuries, and 13 were injured by the Israeli military. One of those killed this week was an 11-year old child. Of the injured, one is a woman, and one is a journalist. |
