Al Quds brigade shells Askalan with home-made shells

author Friday January 18, 2008 17:49author by IMEMC Staff & Agencies - IMEMC News Report post

The Al Quds brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for the shelling of Askalan city with two home-made shells and also for initiating clashes with Israeli military in Qabatiya town, south of the northern West Bank city of Jenin on Friday morning.

The brigades stated that Israelis confirmed the shelling on the new industrial zone in Askalam and on Zikkim military base. The brigades also reported that they clashed with the Israeli army overnight on Thursday when they invaded the old city of Qabatiya from several directions.

In their statement the Al Quds brigades said that this operation came as a response to the continuous Israeli attacks and offenses against the Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank.

This week, Israeli military intensified attacks on Gaza, leaving at least 22 killed and 51 injured. In the West Bank, Israeli military assassinated two senior leaders, one from the Al Quds brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad in Jenin on Wednesday, and the second from the Al Aqsa brigades, the armed wing of Fatah on Friday.
