Welcome to Palestine Today, a service of the International Middle East Media Centre, www.imemc.org, for Monday January 14th, 2008.

Three Palestinians killed in Israeli army air strikes in Gaza, while army invasions are reported in several parts of the West Bank. These stories and more coming up, stay tuned.

The News Cast

Three Palestinians were killed on Sunday at midnight when Israeli army jet fighters attacked a car near the house of Hamas leader and deposed Palestinian Prime Minister Isma'el Hanyiah, located in Gaza city. Witnesses said that they saw three men driving a car near Hanyiah's home when jet fighters fired two missiles at the car.

Medical sources stated that one of the men died in the attack while the other two died later in hospital. The medical sources identified two of the men as; Nidal Al Amodi, 35, Maher Al Mabhoh, while the identity of the third man is still unknown due to the severe burns that were sustained to his face .

Palestinian sources in Gaza announced on Monday morning that the three men killed were resistance fighters from Al Islam army group, a new Islamic resistance group in the Gaza strip.

On Monday the Israeli army issued demolition orders against a water reservoir that belongs to Palestinian farmers from the Bedouin village of Al Hathalen located near Hebron city in the southern part of the West Bank.

The farmers reported that those wells are used to collect rain water to be used for drinking. The wells were originally built several years ago by farmers who live in the Bedouin village, with funds from the Spanish NGO called "ASIPO". The Bedouin village of Al Hathalen is under constant threat of attacks by radical Israeli settlers who live in nearby illegal settlements like Havet Maon.

Also on Monday the Israeli army attacked the villages of Awarta and Houwara located in the northern West Bank city of Nablus and kidnapped three civilians there.

In Awarta village Israeli forces stormed the village, searched homes then kidnapped three men and left. Meanwhile another army force entered the village of Houwara; troops imposed a curfew on the village not allowing families to leave their houses and then made searches of the houses, and witnesses said that soldiers beat up men during the house to house search.
