Palestinian interior minister: security arrangements in the West Bank efficient

author Tuesday December 25, 2007 19:39author by Rami Almeghari - IMEMC Report this post to the editors

Palestinian interior minister, Abdelrazzaq aL-Yahya, asserted that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is keeping up a security plan across the West Bank with a 'great efficiency', and all scenes of chaos will be eliminated soon.

aL-Yahya also called on all Palestinian citizens to respect orders and instructions of the security services, so that their lives and properties could be better protected.

The minister's remarks came during a meeting in the Zababda town, an outskirt of Jenin city in the West Bank, where the Palestinian Authority holds control.

Alyahya toured throughout the town's local markets, examining the police forces work over there.

Over the past several weeks, the PA's security services have been engaged in activities across the West Bank cities and towns, the PA says are meant to keep law and order.

A series of Palestinian factions, such as the Islamic Jihad, Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, have accused such services of cracking down on their armed members.

The PA, according to U.S-brokered security arrangements, is to implement the first phase of the U.S-backed Road Map peace blueprint, which demands Israel to halt settlement activities on Palestinian lands, while it obliges the PA to dismantle armed Palestinian groups
