Under cloudless blue skies and brilliant sunshine the bells of the Nativity Church rang out to greet the endless procession of scout troops, who marched around the square playing drums and bagpipes. Representing Palestinians from all over the West Bank and also areas in Israel they entertained the crowds of Palestinians and internationals along with the world press.

Glitter and confetti rained over the procession adding to the magical and joyous atmosphere of the festivities.

As the call to prayer rang out from the Mosque over the square, the security forces cleared the way for the Michael Sabah the Patriarch of the Catholic Church in Jerusalem. He was welcomed by both the Mayor of Bethlehem and Governor of the Bethlehem district after which he held midday mass.

In the late afternoon the concerts began. A variety of local and international singers, bands, and orchestras performed for a mixed audience of Palestinians and internationals. From beginning to end crowds filled the entire Manger Square. The first to take the stage was the Prepare the Way Concert tour 2007 choir. They captivated the audience as they were joined by members of the Palestinian Youth Orchestra and internationally known soloists Stuart Neill, Sandra Lopez, Cheri Rose Katz and Horace English. They offered a message of justice and peace in Bethlehem and to the whole world as they concluded their performance.

Half a dozen local and international performers followed, offering a variety of music, including traditional Palestinian folk songs, acoustics harmonies, Christmas songs, and European popular music. The night proved successful as crowds gathered around the stage for the entirety of the performances.

At 10 pm there was a break in the concerts as Sami Awad of Holy Land Trust spoke briefly. He offered a message of hope and brotherhood for all Palestinians, especially those living under such difficult conditions in Gaza. He declared that the Palestinians are one people, in one land, and will continue here forever.
