Palestinian blindfolded, beaten by Israeli forces in Hebron

author Wednesday November 21, 2007 07:29author by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News Report this post to the editors

According to international human rights workers living in the area, a Palestinian man was detained, blindfolded and beaten by Israeli forces Monday night in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of Hebron.  The man was on his own property, just two meters from his door, when the Israeli soldiers approached and shouted at the man that he was in a closed military zone.

He was pushed down by the soldiers, handcuffed and beaten.  He was then blindfolded and taken to a nearby military base, where he was again beaten by the soldiers.  The man was afraid to give his name, for fear of reprisals.

This is not the first time he has been targeted by the soldiers.  In 2001, his home was occupied by Israeli soldiers who used it as a military base, and again occupied in 2003 by Israeli settlers.  The man lives in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood, which has been inundated with Israeli settlers in recent years.  Military bases have been built all around the area to protect the Israeli settlers who illegally invaded and occupied Palestinian land in the Hebron area.

After two hours of beatings and detention Monday night, the man was released from the military base and allowed to return home.
