According to the statement, al-Qaltuni was driving his car when he was stopped at a Palestinian checkpoint in the city of Nablus, after which he was taken to the Palestinian Authority central jail in the city.

Al-Qaltuni is a Hamas leader in the city, and a board member of several Islamic charitable organizations.

He has been detained by Palestinian security forces twice in the past few months, and his house has been attacked several times by unknown gunmen.
