Nabeel Abu Rodeina, president's spokesperson, stated that Abbas and Welch “discussed the recent developments reached during the latest Israeli-Palestinian meetings”.

He added that President Abbas demanded that the American government exert effort to help create a document that would meet the expectations of the Palestinians and would lead to the success of the Annapolis international peace conference.

Abu Rodeina added that President Abbas had stated to Welch that the Palestinians are committed to the Road Map peace plan and the Arab Peace Initiative. He affirmed that the Palestinians are heading towards implementing the first part of the Road Map. He also demanded the Israelis to do their part as well.

Abu Rodeina added that President Abbas will meet with the US secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice within the coming forty-eight hours to follow up with these efforts and to work toward bridging the gaps between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
