Jenin under siege since the beginning of October

author Thursday November 01, 2007 13:44author by Ali Samoudi - IMEMC News Report this post to the editors

The city of Jenin, in the northern West Bank, has faced 35 military invasions, intensified roadblocks and increased incidents of humiliation by Israeli forces since the beginning of October.

During the 35 military invasions executed in Jenin in October, soldiers killed a senior resistance leader and his assistant during the attacks and kidnapped more than 20 Palestinians from different parts of the district.

Israeli soldiers detained several civilians for long hours and assaulted them, as well as intensifying the military roadblock in Jenin destrict.

In the past two days, the Israeli military has constructed 8 new military roadblocks on all sides of Jenin to block citizens from entering or exiting the city.  According to local witnesses, the Israeli soldiers implement a number of humiliating procedures against the Palestinian population at those checkpoints.

Jenin is a city that has witnessed repeated military attacks by the Israeli military, which sees the city as a center of resistance.  In fact, resistance to the Israeli occupation in the city of Jenin has increased since the so-called Jenin massacre of 2002, in which Israeli forces killed over 800 civilians in just under two months byflattening whole neighborhoods in the Jenin refugee camp.
