Shiokhy slams ongoing attacks carried by settlers and soldiers in the West Bank

Azmi Shiokhy Secretary –general of the Palestinian Popular Committees, part of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), slammed on Wednesday the ongoing attacks carried by Israeli settlers and soldiers in the West Bank cities of Nablus and Hebron, and other Palestinian areas.

Shiokhy stated that settlers attacked Palestinian residents and Israeli peace activists as they were picking olives in Deir Al Hatab village, east of Nablus city, in the northern part of the West Bank.

He said that the settlers attacked families picking olives and hurled stones at them as the residents and Israeli activists were in Palestinian orchards close to Alon Moreh Israeli settlement.

 They residents carried permits to enter the area, encircled by the Annexation Wall, in order to pick their olives.

Israeli forces, present in the area, ordered the residents to leave instead of evacuated the illegal settlers from the areas.

Shiokhy also said that soldiers forced at least 260 residents to leave an area the lived in, west of Ithna village, near the of southern West Bank city of Hebron.

Troops demolished the houses in the area, and fired rounds of live ammunition at the residents who were protesting against the assault.

In Bil’in village, west of Ramallah, north of Jerusalem, soldiers broke on Tuesday into the house of Eyad Bornat, head of the Popular Committee Against the Wall, and kidnapped an international peace activist.

Bornat stated that soldiers broke into his home, attacked his family, and arrested a polish peace activist. Soldiers also broke into and searched several neighboring houses.

On Tuesday at dawn, soldiers kidnapped two residents after breaking into their homes in Qalqilia city, in the northern part of the West Bank.

The two residents were identified as Kawthar Thiab, 50, the mother of detainee Sa’id Thiab, and Fardous Zeid, 40, the mother of Mohamamd Al Samman, a Palestinian fighters wanted by the army.

Shiokhy slammed in ongoing Israeli violations and the attacks carried by the settlers against the villagers who are trying to pick their olive trees and harvest their lands.
