Palestinian prisoner appeals to international community to save his life

author Wednesday October 31, 2007 22:51author by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC Report this post to the editors

Khalil Moussa, a Palestinian being held by Israeli forces as a prisoner of the occupation, has a heart disease that will soon cause his death without medical intervention.

The Israeli forces holding him in captivity recently transferred Moussa to the Hadareem facility, and since being transferred, his health situation has rapidly deteriorated.

The Israeli authorities have thus far refused to provide Moussa with the necessary medical treatment, so he has appealed to international humanitarian organizations to intervene on his behalf to save his life.

Moussa is currently serving a 20-year sentence imposed by the Israeli occupying authorities.  He has already served four years in solitary confinement amidst deplorable conditions.

He issued the appeal through a phone call with Thaeir Abu Bakr, a prison rights activist in Palestine.

In addition to his heart problem, Moussa has had three surgeries in his gallbladder and stomach.  He also has suffered from mental problems since being held in solitary confinement.

A number of Palestinian prisoners being held by Israeli forces have died in captivity this year, after being denied access to proper medical treatment.  Israeli authorities have come under fire from a number of international human rights groups due to their treatment of Palestinian prisoners of war.
