The Radio reported that today’s meeting comes one day after a secret meeting between the Israeli Foreign Minister, Tzipi Livni, and head of the Palestinian Negotiations team, Ahmad Qurea. Israeli online daily, Haaretz, reported that the talks were described as successful and that the Palestinian and Israeli teams achieved progress in many issues. Haaretz added that Palestinian officials denied reports which claimed that there is a crises in the talks, and that these talks are still in the initial stages. Haaretz also said that Qurea denied media reports which stated that the talks collapsed and that he said that there is no crises in the current talks. Chief Palestinian Negotiator, Dr, Saeb Erekat, stated that current stage of talks is essential since its prepares for the Peace Summit which will be held in Maryland – USA in November. Erekat added that the next stage of talks will be on achieving a peace deal, and that the final stage will be implementing the agreements. He also said that a document, not a peace deal, must be reached before the summit, and that this document should be focusing on core issues and specific standards. Meanwhile, UN secretary general, Ban Ki Moon, stated that any decisions which would be reached during the peace summit in the US to revive the peace process, should be presented to the Security Council for approval. |
