The Committees, part of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), issued on Tuesday a press release stating the Samara is in immediate need for medical intervention and that all what he is being provided with right now are some painkilling pills. The Committees added the Samara, currently detained in the Negev detention camp, in the Negev desert, is suffering from Migraine disease and ulcer which is causing continuous pain while the Israeli Prison Authorities are refusing to transfer him to a hospital for medical treatment. The Committees held the Israeli Authorities responsible for any further health deterioration and called for allowing representative of the Red Cross to visit Samara. It is worth mentioning that the Prison Authorities are barring the family of Samara from visiting him. Azmi Shiokhy, secretary-general of the committees, called on the international community and various human rights groups to intervene for the release of all Palestinian political detainees from Israeli prisons. He added that the Israeli occupation is targeting all efforts that could lead to peace and stability in the region, and ongoing with the invasions, arrests and assassinations against the Palestinians. Shiokhy also stated that President Mahmoud Abbas and the Ministerial Council place the issue of the detainees as a top priority in any talks with the Israeli side. He also stated that the upcoming Fall Peace Conference in the United States will end with failure if large numbers of detainees were not freed, and if no positive outcomes were achieved, especially the issue of the Right of Return of the refugees and establishing an independent contiguous Palestinian State. |
