Al Qarawy, 48, fainted and suffered from a health condition and was moved to the prison hospital which already lacks the basic medical equipment. The family of Al Qarawy said that detainees who were recently released from Al Ramla prison, informed them that the he fainted while he was in his room and was moved to the prison hospital. The family, in Nour Shams refugee camp in the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem, expressed concern over the health condition of Al Qarawy especially since the prison administration is rejecting to allow him to conduct the needed medical tests. The family appealed human rights groups, and the Red Cross, to intervene and ensure the he receives the needed medical help. Al Qarawy was kidnapped more than 15 months ago and was not charged or sent to court since then. He was elected in 2006 as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council when he ran with the Hamas “Change and Reform Bloc”. In 1992 he was deported to Lebanon along with several Hamas leaders, and was repeatedly arrested by the Israeli army. He is one of more than 45 Palestinians legislatures who were kidnapped by the Israeli army in 2006, some of the detained legislators are sick, elderly, facing medical negligence and violations. |
