The Society stated that Salama was attacked and violently beaten by the soldiers who later on transferred him to the prison physician. He suffered bruises and sharp pain in his back, chest and other parts of his body, and also suffered breathing issues. The Society added that Israel is using solitary confinement as a means to isolate the detainees from each other and from their families in order to inflict psychological pressures on them. Detainees in solitary confinement do not receive regular meals, aren’t provided with sufficient water and are not allowed to receive books or any reading materials. When they are allowed out of solitary for a short break, the detainees are kept handcuffed and chained. The Society held the Israeli authorities for the life of Salama and the rest of the detainees, and appealed on the International red Cross and Human Rights groups to intervene and practice pressures on Israel to end its illegal violations against the detainees. Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, stated that Salama is one of the main leaders of the Al Qassam brigades, the armed wing of the movement. He was sentenced to 46 life-terms.
