Salamah is one of the founders of the armed wing of Hamas. He has been imprisoned for ten years having been sentenced to 45 life terms.

Hamas issued a statement accusing the prison's administration of deliberately worsening the conditions in which Salamah and the other detainees are being held. In it, Hamas demanded that international organizations, including the Red Cross, intervene to prevent the Israelis from continuing with their policy of causing the 'slow death' detainees.
