Hamas added that Moayyad Bani Odah, 22, was severely tortured in Jneid prison in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Legislative Council, dominated by Hamas, stated that Bani Odah was arrested by security forces, loyal to Fateh, in July 2 2007, and was severely tortured in prison.

The Council added that this assault is a violation to human rights and violates article number 3 – 2001 of the Palestinian law.

The Council also stated that political arrests violate decision of the previous legislative council which forbids political arrests.

Moreover, the council added that a probe committee was formed to investigate the death of Bani Odah.

In a separate incident, one Hamas member was shot and injured in Rafidia neighborhood in Nablus. Hamas said that Fateh gunmen are behind the attack.

Hamas added that gunmen, who were unmasked, fired at Ala’ Hassouna, and injured him in his leg. Hassouna was moved to a Nablus hospital.

Following the attack, Hamas gunmen took off to the streets, closed main roads, and stores, and fired rounds of live ammunition into the air.

It is worth mentioning that Hassouna was repeatedly arrested by Israeli forces, and was deported to Gaza after two years imprisoned in an Israeli detention facility. After the two years he returned to Nablus.

Several Palestinian Human Rights groups demanded a probe into the death of Hassouna, and stated that this is a direct violation to the principles of Human Rights and to the Palestinian law.
