author Friday August 10, 2007 10:04author by John Smith - IMEMC & agencies Report this post to the editors

Approximately 400 Palestinians, the last of thousands previously stranded on the Gaza-Egyptian borders, on Thursday returned to the Gaza Strip, Egyptian security officials have indicated.

The final contingent returned to the coastal region via the Awja crossing, located south of Rafah.

6000 Palestinians had previously been stranded at the Rafah crossing point. The vast majority of this group had been in Egypt for medical treatment when Israel closed all border crossings in and out of the Gaza Strip in June. At least 32 died while waiting to re-enter the coastal region.
