The Union of Wounded Palestinians in Bethlehem issued a statement on Tuesday stating that the three detainees are in immediate need for proper medical treatment, and appealed several human rights groups and the United Nations to save them.

The three are Mohammad Montaser Abu Zeid, Mohammad Basheer and Mohammad Obeiyyat.

Detainee Mohammad Abu Zeid was kidnapped by the Israeli army in December last year after the soldiers fired at him in Al Douha town in Bethlehem . He was hit by fourteen rounds of live ammunition in his legs and underwent three surgeries but still needs further surgeries and rehabilitation, especially since he lost any movement in his legs.

The second detainee is Mohammad Basheer, from Deheishe refugee camp; he was shot in his foot and needs a surgery in addition to some walking aides.

The third detainee in Mohammad Obeiyyat, from Bethlehem, he was shot and injured in his back and needed further medical attention and rehabilitation.

Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons face harsh living conditions in addition to extreme torture during interrogation and to repeated attack carried by the soldiers against them. They aren’t  provided with the needed and essential food, medical attention and are living in prisons and detention camps that violate the international law.

So far, 183 Palestinians died in Israeli prisoner, most of them died of extreme torture, others were executed after arrest. Twelve of them died since the beginning of the Intifada in 2000.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) reported that 69 detainees died of torture during interrogation, 41 died of medical negligence, and 73 were extra-judicially assassinated after arrest.
