After the release of BBC journalist Alan Johnston on Wednesday, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh stated that he hoped Gilad Shalit, the captured Israeli soldier, would soon be released also.

Speaking of the possibility of striking a deal for Shalit’s release, Haniyeh stated that if “logic and reason” was used by the Israeli administration, then the captive soldier could be released.
"As the case of Alan Johnston has ended, we hope that the case of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit may end too in an honorable deal that would secure the release of our hero prisoners from Israeli jails," Haniyeh stated on Wednesday.
Shalit was seized by Palestinian resistance fighters on June 25, 2006.
