The Palestinian Popular Committee issued a statement on Saturday condemning the illegal Israeli policy of forcing parents of detainees to go through naked body searches before visiting their detained family members in the Gabloa’ and Shatta prisons.

Azmi Shiokhy, Secretary-General of the Committees, slammed the illegal practices and stated that the soldiers forced women, children and the elderly to undress under the pretext of searching them before visiting their detained relatives.

He called on the detainees to protest against these illegal measures since they violate international law and the basic principles of human rights. He also called on the residents to support the detainees and their struggle through acts of solidarity and protests.

Shiokhy also said that the Israeli Prison Administration had forced several parents of detainees from Nablus, Jerusalem and from inside Israel to fully undress in order to be searched before visiting their sons in the Negev detention facility.

Shiokhy called on several human rights groups and the international Red Cross to intervene and put pressure on the Israeli authorities to stop these violations.
