Ann Linde, International Secretary of the Swedish Socialist Party, the biggest political party in Sweden, stated on Wednesday during a meeting with Palestinian minister of information Dr. Mustafa Al Barghouthi that her party endorses and supports the Palestinian National unity government and all its ministers.

The Socialist Party is the biggest political party in Sweden and was in sole control of the government until the last election in Sweden. Last June, the party called on the Swedish government to deal with the Palestinian National Unity Government and all of its ministers.

For his part, Dr. Barghouthi highlighted the recent atrocities committed by the Israeli army including the continuous shelling of the Gaza Strip and the extra-judicial assassinations which have left more that 70 Palestinians dead since the formation of the National unity government, two months ago.

The Palestinian Minister also told the Swedish official of the harsh conditions Palestinians are living in due to the economical siege enforced on the PA by the international community and Israel, which alone holds 850 million US$ in tax revenue entitled to the Palestinians.

Dr. Barghouthi said that by building the Wall and installing more than 600 military checkpoints in the West Bank, Israeli has created an apartheid system far worse than the South African one, adding that the continuous attacks in Gaza and the West Bank are destroying both peace and the Palestinian way of life.

Furthermore, Barghouthi noted that Israel’s response to Palestinian calls for truce has been one of escalation and violence, a reaction that demonstrates that Israel does not want peace.

At the end of the meeting, both politicians agreed to work together in an effort to lift the financial siege imposed on the Palestinian territories.
