Unknown gunmen open fire at a Palestinian top security officer in Hebron

Unknown gunmen opened fire at the house of a top Palestinian security officer located in the southern West Bank city of Hebron on Monday at dawn.

The house belongs to Mager Jihad Abu Amier, the director of the Palestininian preventative security force working in the city of Hebron. Palestinian sources reported that a group of unknown gunmen shored the house of Abu Amier with live rounds, causing damage to the house; the sources added that the firing targeted the bead rooms of the house.

Mager Abu Amier told IMEMC that the attack on his house comes as part of the organized crime groups in Palestine efforts to stop the security plan Palestinian security forces trying to enforce. He added that him and other officers' implementing this Plan will continue their work regardless of those attacks until law and order is restored in the Palestinian areas.

Palestinian interior minister, Hani Qawasmi, announced earlier this month a security plan made up of phases, in a bid to restore calm to the unruly Palestinian street, in the shadow of factional infighting and family disputes.

Internal unrest throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip over the past four months has claimed the lives of hundreds of Palestinians and wounded hundreds others. The unrest involved Fatah-Hamas infighting and a series of family feuds, at a time when the Palestinian territories have been going through unprecedented harsh economic conditions due to an international economic embargo.
