Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi - Palestinian Information Minister

The Palestinian Minister of Information, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, criticised Israel for detaining an international peace activist for 96 hours after he raised the Palestinian flag on a communication tower during the nonviolent anti-Wall protest in Bil’in village, west of Ramallah.

Alberto De Jesus, also known as Tito Kayak, performed an incredible non-violent stunt at the demonstration. Despite Israel’s tight security, he managed to scale a 100 meter Israeli communications tower and unfurl the Palestinian flag at the Bilin wall, an IMEMC reporter said.

Barghouthi added that Israel is carrying out repeated attacks and violations against international peace activists in order to keep them out of the occupied territories since they expose the Israeli violations against the Palestinians and their land.

He also said that Israel is trying to bar the internal peace activists from entering the occupied territories and repeatedly deported them or even forced them out of the country directly after they landed in Tel Aviv, or as they were trying to enter the country through Jordan.

Dozens of Israeli and international peace activists were injured and harshly attacked by the soldiers during non-violent protests against the illegal Israeli Annexation Wall. Soldiers use various weapons against the protesters in an attempt to stop the ongoing nonviolent protests against the Wall and settlements.
