Dozens of armed settlers accompanied by soldiers broke into a cemetery and vandalized headstones in Awarta village in the northern West Bank on Wednesday morning, claiming that Jewish shrines were buried there.

Sources in the village, which is near the illegal Israeli settlement of Itamar stated that the incident occurred after the group initially stormed the village along with five army jeeps, and claimed that Jewish shrines were buried in the area. Apparently this is not the first time that the village and its cemetery have been attacked by such a group.

During the incident settlers attacked and damaged houses and parked cars in the area, sources stated.
